About Krobo Beads: Krobo beads are powder glass African beads, made by the people of Krobo Mountain in Ghana, West Africa. Fun and colorful, Krobo glass beads are made by crushing bottles and other glass items into a fine powder and then pouring it into clay molds to create these elbow-shaped beads. Once the glass is heated in an oven, it forms the powder glass beads. The beads are then individually hand-painted using a thin wooden stalk into colorful geometric patterns, many of which are patterned to resemble old Venetian fancy trade beads. The beads are cooked a second time to fix the decor. Both men and women wear them, as necklaces and bracelets. No two beads are alike!
