This beautiful multi-layered necklace is handmade all the way from Kenya. It is made of tiny colored beads known as "shanga" amongst the Maasai ethnic group. The multiple bead strands gradually increase in length, with a wide row of beads covering the neck similar to the fit of a choker. The necklace closes with a loop. This best fits a neck with a circumference of 14"-15." Anything more than that may feel too tight. Note that this is a vivid green color.
The colors of the beading used in Maasai beadwork hold special meaning. Green—the color of grass—represents land and production. You can learn more about Maasai beadwork HERE.
